Are you mad that you died at the end of Die Hard?

You’ve most likely seen the Funny People commercials and are well aware that the doctor that is giving Adam Sandler his death sentence looks like the unkillable villian Karl from Die Hard – you know that one that goes nuts after McClain kills his brother. Watch the clips below if you are not familiar with either. The resemblance is not lost on Sandler’s character and he cracks a few jokes about it – I’m not sure which one(s) makes the final cut. My friend Pat suggested that the doctor may actually be played by the same actor, which would make that joke exponentially better. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Torsten Voges, who is Nihilist #3 in The Big Lebowski, plays the doctor. Nihilist #3 is the silent one with the cricket bat, the guy standing behind Karl Hungus and Flea in the picture above.
Mildly disappointed, I went to the Die Hard IMDB page to find out how crazy Karl was…
Karl is played by Alexander Godunov, the once premier dancer for the Bolshi Ballet, who defected to the USA in 1979 while on tour in NYC with the Bolshoi company. The defection caused a diplomatic incident that included the KGB, Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev. After going on to dance in the States, trying to kill Bruce Willis, and some other roles and stuff, Godunov died of alcoholism in Hollywood. An unexpectedly interesting find that I feel only slightly embarrassed sharing.
